"I CAN BE INFORMED
ABOUT THE WORD OF GOD"
as published in Toms River Church of Christ bulletin
Most of the people I
know can read and write. They know what's going on in the world about
them. They read the newspaper and watch television. One could say they are
informed. Regrettably, many of these same people who are
very well informed about current events, are unenlightened about God and
His word. Is the Bible the best-loved book in the home? You might ask
yourself some pointed questions about your Bible knowledge. Some questions
deserving an honest answer:
1. Do I study (not simply read) the Bible every day? 2. How does my Bible knowledge compare with my knowledge of
television, movies, politics and sports? 3. Could I show a sinner how to be saved, giving him specific
scriptures? 4. What am I going to do about my lack of knowledge of the Bible?
The following ideas were actually expressed by children studying in
religious schools. Obviously, their "knowledge" of the Bible left
something to be desired:
In Christianity a man can have only one wife. This
is called "Monotomy."
Who was sorry when the prodigal son returned? The
fatted calf.
The Tower of Babel was a place where Solomon kept
his wives.
Moses died before he reached Canada, but he saw it
from a mountain.
A deacon is the lowest kind of Christian.
Following is the First of the articles on "How to
Understand the Bible." Read Jeremiah 9:23-24.
