Ask, and it shall be given to you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you.  Matt. 7:7

“HOW TO UNDERSTAND THE BIBLE” Part 2 - A GREAT BOOK OF FACTS
The Bible is a book of great facts from God. These facts must be understood. It takes study to understand and tools for the serious Bible student to increase his knowledge. The following practical tools will assist in this effort:

1. A BIBLE: but not any Bible. Select one that has clear print, heavy pages, and a margin for notes. Convenient to carry and pretty to look at may not be suited for study.
2. BIBLE CONCORDANCE: an alphabetical arrangement of most words of the Bible. This will assist you in locating a certain passage of Scripture when you remember only a word.
3. BIBLE DICTIONARY: helps to understand the meaning of things, persons, places, events. Provides terms in Bible times.
4. MAPS AND ATLASES: the Bible is an historical record. - Locating and depicting certain events is essential to good study.
5. BOOKS AND COMMENTARIES: select, with care, and use with caution only as a human aid. Do not consider authoritative.
6. TIME FOR STUDY: you must take time! Plan a schedule, hold to it and exclude lesser things that hinder. That's good stewardship.
7. PLACE FOR STUDY: the room, the chair, the lighting, the atmosphere are all important. Seek to prevent distractions.
8. PLAN OF STUDY: select a system or plan. Suggestions: books of the Bible verse by verse; persons; doctrines (prayer, faith, sin); prophecies; miracles; parables.
9. GOOD STUDY HABITS: read correctly; use markings (charts, graphs); make notes and outlines; self-recitation.
10. AN ALERT MIND: recognize the many blessings that await your effort. Wisdom, instruction, strengthening. Study the Word with the intention of understanding it and receiving a blessing.
