Ask, and it shall be given to you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you.  Matt. 7:7
"THE CHRISTIAN PROFILE"

The world is quick to recognize hypocrisy, which is a pretense of virtue. Every child of God must consider carefully if any inconsistency exists between profession and practice. The following qualities we should seek to develop and maintain:

  • A discerning mind. "Discern" is to perceive or recognize; make out clearly; separate mentally from another or others. Acts 17:11 speaks of a group of people who "received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether these things were so."
  • Observant eyes. Jesus states in John 4:35, "the fields are white already for harvest." Caution must be exercised in looking for "greener pastures" in seeking to satisfy self, which often leads to unrighteous living.
  • Helping hands. Jesus' example according to the opening verse of the Book of Acts was "both to do and teach." The Christian is the instrument through which God accomplishes His purpose. There's no exercise better for the heart than reaching down and lifting people up.
  • Swift feet. There exists an urgency in obedience to God's word: "Behold now is the day of salvation," 2 Corinthians 6:2. Philip ran to join the Ethiopian enoch in the chariot in order to share God's word. Acts 8:30.
  • Tender hearts. That's compassion -- seeing the condition of another with a willingness to do something about it. Compassion will heal more souls than condemnation. Study 2 Corinthians 2:1-4 and see the Apostle Paul's tender heart.
God sent Christ to represent Himself to the world and Christ sent us to represent Him to the world.
